Maci DeShane Bookout (now Maci McKinney) is a 16-year-old high school junior from Chattanooga, Tennessee who becomes pregnant by her then-boyfriend Ryan Edwards.

Prior to her son's birth, the episode focuses on Ryan's indifference to the forthcoming baby and his relationship with Maci.

On October 27, 2008, Maci gives birth to her first child, son Bentley Cadence Edwards. Following Bentley's birth, the episode focuses on Maci & Ryan's relationship struggles due to Maci having to carry most of the parenting load.

Maci attended an accelerated school so she could graduate early. Following her high school graduation, she enrolls in the local community college to start classes and has little help from Edwards in raising Bentley.

She has to rely on her family to help, but when she decides that is not fair to them, she quits the dance team to spend more time with Bentley. Maci calls off the engagement and the pair almost breaks up, but they decided to stay together for Bentley's sake; the couple has since broken up.

In 2012, Maci began dating motocross racer Taylor McKinney. On May 29, 2015, she gave birth to her second child, daughter Jayde Carter McKinney.

In January 2016, it was announced that Maci and Taylor were engaged shortly before Maci announced that she was pregnant with the couple's second child; on May 31, 2016, she gave birth to son Maverick Reed McKinney.

On October 8, 2016, Maci and Taylor got married in Greenville, Florida.
